Jofra Archer’s absence from international cricket will extend past a year after another injury setback ruled him out of the remainder of the UK season.
The 27-year-old has been determined to have a lower back fracture and won’t play for England or Sussex during the 2022 northern summer.
Archer’s last top level match was in July 2021 in a homegrown one-day warm-up fixture for Sussex against Oxfordshire where he bowled six overs.
“After being diagnosed with a stress fracture to the lower back, England and Sussex seamer Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the rest of the season,” said England Cricket in a statement.
“No timeframe has been set for his return. A management plan will be determined following further specialist opinion over the coming days,” it added.
Jofra Archer went through a second elbow operation in December that ruled him out of England’s last Test series against the West Indies in March, while the repeat of that right elbow stress fracture in August at first administered him out of the Ashes the previous summer.
He is an asset in the T20 circuit yet wants to show what him can do in the five-day format, however whether his body permits him to do as such, is not yet clear.
