The Premier League has confirmed that three games, including Chelsea’s home match against Liverpool on Sunday, have been postponed because of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, which will take place on Monday.

The league announced that Brighton & Hove Albion’s match against Crystal Palace on Saturday has been postponed and that Manchester United’s home game against Leeds United on Sunday has also been postponed.

Due to scheduled rail network strikes that were cancelled in the wake of the queen’s passing, the Brighton game was initially postponed.

English soccer’s ruling body had already postponed all of last weekend’s fixtures as a mark of respect.

“Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral,” the Premier League said in a statement.

“Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

“For the matches being played during the period of National Mourning, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums.”

The Greater Manchester Police are “helping authorities across the United Kingdom at locations and events of high significance,” according to Manchester United, who claimed that is why their match was postponed after the queen’s passing.

The league noted that new dates for the rescheduled games will be revealed soon.
