At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia’s seasoned opener David Warner, playing in his 100th Test, broke a nearly three-year drought by scoring a century against South Africa.
After entering the game under pressure following a lean run, the 36-year-old passed 8,000 Test runs on the way to three figures, becoming the eighth Australian to do so.
In an aggressive 144-ball innings on day two of the second Test, he disproved the doubters and scored his first century since January 2020. He hit eight fours during the innings.
He punched the air in celebration as he brought up his 25th century with a boundary.
