Bengaluru FC defeated North East United 1-0 in their Indian Super League (ISL) debut on Saturday, thanks to Alan Costa’s 87th-minute strike.
If a fraction of the 19,379 people who showed up to welcome Bengaluru FC back to their Fortress for the Indian Super League believed it was a night when the ball just wouldn’t go in, they could be forgiven.
Match winner. Again!⚡️🇧🇷

The Brazilian defender headed in a Javier Hernandez corner at the far post to give Sunil Chhetri’s team all three points.
Hernandez had been brought on as a substitute for Fijian attacker Roy Krishna.
When Indian international Udanta Singh got a pass on the edge of the North East penalty box in the 78th minute, Bengaluru had a chance to go ahead. His attempt, though, flew over the crossbar.
Bengaluru had several chances in the second half, one of which went begging in the 64th minute when Sivashakthi, who might have scored from close range after sloppy defending from the North East backline, decided to set up his skipper Chhetri, who fluffed his lines.
Bengaluru had the majority of ball possession in the first half, and Chhetri’s 23rd-minute header from a Bruno Silva cross was off target.
