On Friday, the BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, said that Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained a back injury after the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Australia, is still not ruled out of the upcoming T20 world cup and he is not yet giving up on him.

The 28-year-old Jasprit Bumrah was unavailable for the 1st T20I match against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram due to a complaint of back pain and was rushed straight to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to undergo scans of his back after being ruled out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against the Proteas.

“Let’s see what happens. Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet,” Ganguly told the Xtra Time digital channel in Kolkata on Friday. The BCCI president added, “Fingers crossed, yes. We will find out in the next two or three days. Don’t rule him out yet”.

Ganguly’s remarks come after the statement of a BCCI official, who told Bumrah he had “sustained” a back injury and was under the supervision of the medical staff at NCA.

According to a report, the initial scans done on Wednesday revealed a stress-related back injury. The Indian team’s medical staff and the NCA decided to conduct fresh scans in Bengaluru on Thursday as Bumrah recently recovered from a back injury due to which he was out of the Asia Cup.

The BCCI has hired independent medical consultants to study the latest scans done on Thursday, and they will then coordinate with the board’s medical staff to determine the next step in the future of India’s lead pace bowler.

The Indian T20 World Cup squad is set to fly to Australia on October 6 for preparations, and now Bumrah is in a race against time.

The Indian team will be in Perth until October 13, before heading to Brisbane, where they are scheduled to play two warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand on October 17 and 19, respectively, before going to Melbourne to play their tournament opener against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23.
