Emma Raducanu and Halep proceed, Pliskova falls at Indian Wells

Emma Raducanu, Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek all emerged on the winning side of three set matches while Danka Kovinic upset Karolina Pliskova in second round at Indian Wells.

Raducanu’s 6-1 3-6 6-1 win is the Briton’s first at the WTA 1000 occasion as she hopes to get her season on target after falling in the second round at the Australian Open and withdrawing in Guadalajara with injury.

The U.S. Open champion came out dazzling in the Southern California desert, playing almost faultless tennis to take the first set before Garcia answered with more power in the second.

“It’s amazing to be back and it’s amazing to get my first win in the desert here,” said Emma Radacanu.

Simona Halep’s 6-2 4-6 6-2 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova followed a comparable direction as the two-time champion floated through the first set prior to running into obstruction in the second and fleeing with it in the third.

“I am happy that I could win. It’s important at this stage,” she said after the win.

Swiatek required chance to track down her serve in her match against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina yet when she did, the third cultivated Pole slipped into the third round with a 5-7 6-0 6-1 triumph.

With their successes, Halep and Swiatek stay on target for a potential semi-final clash.

In the greatest surprise of the tournament up until this point, Danka Kovinic staggered large serving Pliskova 2-6 7-5 6-4 in a hard battled more than two hour match.
