Roger Federer will team up with a friend and rival Rafa Nadal for the Laver Cup doubles match on Friday, which is expected to be the Swiss great’s final professional match.
The 41-year-old Federer will compete for Team Europe in this week’s Laver Cup, alongside Nadal, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic, his three biggest rivals in his glittering 24-year career.
Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, has been plagued by knee injuries in recent years and announced last week that he will retire after the Laver Cup in London.
The organizers’ order of play for the first day of the tournament revealed that Federer and Nadal will play the final match of the evening at London’s O2 Arena against the American duo of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
“I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but it could obviously be a special moment,” Federer said on Wednesday about potentially playing his final match alongside great rival Nadal, while also confirming that he was unable to play singles.
