June 9: Mithali Raj- One of Indian cricket’s all-time greats called it a day

In June of this year, Mithali Raj, who had been in charge of the Indian women’s cricket team for more than 20 years, decided to hang up her boots.

A 23-year career that was filled with runs, records, lessons learned, and memories came to an end with this choice. Mithali began her international career in 1999 as a gifted batter and finished as the most prolific scorer in the annals of women’s cricket.

She played in 232 games and scored 7805 ODI runs overall, averaging over 50. She did well in other formats as well, scoring 699 runs in 12 Tests and 2364 runs in 89 T20Is. The fact that she led India to greater heights in women’s cricket will be her greatest legacy. She led India to the 2017 World Cup final.

July 28: Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement

Sebastian Vettel, a four-time Formula 1 champion, made the decision to end his career in July of this year. He declared that he would retire from racing after the 2022 season. The 2007 F1 rookie from Germany announced the news in a video posted to his Instagram page.

Between 2010 and 2013, Vettel won all four championships with Red Bull. With 53 victories, he is third among all-time Grand Prix winners. He competed in his final race on November 20 in Abu Dhabi, where he placed 10th for Aston Martin.

August 9: Serena Williams announces her retirement

A few weeks prior to Roger Federer’s announcement, American Serena Williams decided to transition away from tennis. She is the latest tennis legend to make this decision.

The legendary American tennis player made her retirement official in a VOGUE magazine article. She made her final competitive tennis appearance at the 2022 U.S. Open. She advanced to Round 3, but Australian Ajla Tomljanovic defeated her 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.

One of the greatest tennis players in history is Serena. She held the WTA’s top spot for a record 319 weeks.

September 24: Roger Federer announces retirement

After the Laver Cup next week, Roger Federer announced his retirement from tennis. The tennis champion from Switzerland made his decision public via social media.

Roger Federer said: “The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour.”

He further added, “As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.”

September 24: India defeats England, giving Jhulan Goswami a fairy-tale sendoff.

India Women defeated England by 16 runs in the third and final ODI to complete their first ever clean sweep in this nation. Deepti Sharma ran Charlie Dean out at the non-end striker’s to take the final wicket, and Jhulan Goswami played her final waltz with a fairy-tale ending fitting of her illustrious career.
