India defeated Bangladesh by three wickets in the second test to complete a 2-0 series sweep in Mirpur.

India overcame a batting collapse to reach the target in the first session of the penultimate day at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, chasing 145 for victory on a turning track with variable bounce.

Ravichandran Ashwin scored an unbeaten 42 for India, while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan (5-63) was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers.

Following a top-order collapse on Saturday, India resumed on 45-4, needing 100 runs to win the series and advance to the World Test Championship final.

They fell to 74-7 before Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer put on an unbroken 71-run stand to keep India’s unbeaten test record against Bangladesh.

After being dropped on one by Mominul Haque at short leg, Ashwin hit Mehidy for consecutive boundaries to seal India’s tense victory.

Ashwin, who took six wickets in the match, was named player-of-the-match. Cheteshwar Pujara of India was named player-of-the-series for being the series’ leading scorer.

Bangladesh had won the previous one-day international series between the neighbours 2-1.
