In their second match of the Asia Cup 2022, Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant 26-ball 68 alongside Virat Kohli’s smooth half-century propelled a subdued India to 192-2 against Hong Kong.
Suryakumar demonstrated how it’s done at the Dubai International Stadium with his diverse repertoire of shots on a two-paced pitch where the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and K L Rahul were unable to capitalise on their starts.
Suryakumar, who was batting at 42, hammered the final over of Haroon Arshad for four sixes from five balls, giving India 26 runs. It took him just 22 balls to reach fifty.
For the first time since his 52 against the West Indies in Kolkata on February 18, 2022, Kohli scored his first international half-century after demonstrating his desire against Pakistan on Sunday with a 34-ball 35.
The Kohli and Suryakumar partnership came back strongly from 94/2 in 13 overs, with the latter showing off his 360-degree strokemaking abilities.
In an unbroken third-wicket stand that took just 42 balls, the two batsmen scored 98 runs in total. India made a strong comeback in the final five overs, scoring 78 runs.
Afghanistan and India have advanced to the Super Fours with two wins in two games. We have two matchups that we must win in order to qualify for the final two berths.
