As Roger Federer played his final match before ending an incredibly decorated career, there were tears around. Rafael Nadal, Federer’s “friend and opponent,” too broke down in tears, providing probably the best possible send-off for the tennis legend.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli wrote a touching message alongside a photo of Federer and Nadal crying together. Upon his final bow, Federer was visibly moved to tears, and others like Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal were also affected.

In an Instagram post, Kohli said that Federer had accomplished something remarkable because his “partner” Nadal was also sobbing for the latter.

“Who thought rivals can feel like this towards each other. That’s the beauty of sport. This is the most beautiful sporting picture ever for me. When your companions cry for you, you know why you’ve been able to do with your god given talent. Nothing but respect for these 2. @rogerfederer @rafaelnadal,” wrote Kohli.

Tennis ace from Spain After the doubles match at the current Laver Cup 2022, Nadal’s longtime adversary and friend Federer announced his retirement from competitive tennis.

The 41-year-old Nadal and 20-time Grand Slam champion, representing Team Europe, lost to Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock of Team World 6-4, 6-7 (2/7), and 9-11.

Federer hugged Sock, Tiafoe, and Nadal after the match before breaking down in tears. In the aftermath of their defeat in Federer’s final tennis match, Nadal was also photographed crying.
