India will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against South Africa on October 6, 9, and 11 at Lucknow, Ranchi, and New Delhi, respectively. Shikhar Dhawan, India’s senior left-handed opener, was named captain on Sunday.
Middle-order batter Rajat Patidar and Bengal pace bowler Mukesh Kumar have received their maiden India call-ups for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Patidar’s career has taken off since he hit a stunning 112 for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants in Kolkata.
Mukesh—a right-arm medium pacer who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket—took nine wickets at an average of 21.78, including 5/86 on the opening day of the series against New Zealand A. More recently, in the present Irani Cup final in Rajkot, he tormented the illustrious Saurashtra batting order with his lethal spell of 4/23 for the Rest of India.
India will miss their key players in this series as India’s T20I squad is scheduled to fly to Australia on October 6 for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
India’s ODI squad: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubhman Gill, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rajat Patidar, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar
