The 13-member Pakistani team, which included two officials, crossed the international border at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) on Friday in protest of the Chess Olympiad Torch travelling through Kashmir.
The Pakistani chess team had travelled to India to compete in the 44th Chess Olympiad, which was taking place from July 29 to August 10 in Chennai.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry had charged India for fusing the two fields. The Pakistani government announced the withdrawal of their personnel as a show of protest.
Additionally, the contingent had declined to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural ceremony on July 28.
