P V Sindhu and HS Prannoy doled out shining exhibitions to advance toward the women’s and men’s singles finals at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
World No. 7 Sindhu won 21-18 15-21 21-19 over Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in a 79-minute women’s singles elimination round to make her second progressive last after Prannoy squeezed out a hard-battled 21-19 19-21 21-18 win over Indonesia’s number 5 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting for his first final in a long time.
Sindhu will confront one more Thai player and fourth seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the final, while Prannoy, who had last won the US Open in 2017, will take on Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the men’s singles final, on Sunday.
Kidambi Srikanth, the World Championships silver medallist, wasted an initial game benefit to go down 21-18 7-21 13-21 to Asian Games champion Christie of Indonesia in elimination rounds.
Prannoy will fancy his possibilities as he has beaten Christie thrice while losing multiple times in the last seven meeting. Then again, Sindhu will begin as number one against Busanan, whom she has crushed a mind-boggling multiple times in 16 meeting.
