Fans attending the World Cup in Qatar, regardless of vaccination status, must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, organisers said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, all visitors aged six and up must present a negative result from a PCR test taken within 48 hours of departure or a rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of arrival.
Rapid antigen test results will only be accepted if they are obtained from official medical centres and not self-administered. If visitors do not develop COVID-19 symptoms, no further tests will be required in Qatar.
Visitors aged 18 and up will also be required to download Ehteraz, a government-run contact tracing phone application.
“A green Ehteraz status (showing the user does not have a confirmed case of COVID-19) is required to enter any public closed indoor spaces,” the statement added.
“Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 while in Qatar will be required to isolate in accordance with Ministry of Public Health guidelines,” the statement said.
Fans will be required to wear masks on public transportation, but vaccination is not required for the unprecedented influx of 1.2 million visitors expected from November 20 to December. 18-team tournament
