Rest of India won the Irani Cup 2022 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Tuesday, defeating hosts and defending champions Saurashtra by eight wickets.

Early in the fourth day of the Irani Cup, bowler Kuldeep Sen got the last two Saurashtra wickets. Abhimanyu Easwaran hit an unbeaten 63 as ROI chased down a target of 105 with eight wickets to spare, while Srikar Bharat produced a 27-run knock as ROI won with 32 overs to spare.

From the first day, when they bowled Saurashtra out for 98, the Rest of India side dominated. In the second innings, the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy champions performed somewhat better with the bat.

The lower-order batting, headed by skipper Jaydev Unadkat’s 89, provided fight, and his eight-wicket stand with Prerak Mankad (72) moved Saurashtra ahead, but Rest of India were always within two wickets away from winning the game.

Sen got things started by catching Parth Bhut in front of the stumps. As Saurashtra were knocked out for 380 in their second innings, Unadkat became his sixth wicket.

Unadkat removed batter Priyank Panchal and Yash Dhull early to give his team some hope, but a steady Easwaran combined with Bharat to put an end to Saurashtra’s campaign.
