Mohammed Siraj has been named as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the series against South Africa. Siraj will join the Indian squad in Guwahati ahead of the second T20I on Sunday.

After being unavailable for the first T20I match against South Africa, Bumrah went for scans on his lower back at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and now the medical staff is going to take a final call on his participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Mohammed Siraj last played a T20I for India in February this year against Sri Lanka. Siraj has so far played just five T20I matches for India, where he took five wickets at an economy rate of 10.45.

However, Siraj has been a regular feature for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL since 2020, and he was also one of the three retained players before last season’s auction.

India now has five pace bowling options which they can use in the remaining two T20Is against South Africa after winning the first T20I by 8 wickets. The second T20I will be played in Guwahati on Sunday, followed by the series finale in Indore on Tuesday.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (capt), KL Rahul (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Umesh Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammed Siraj.
