South Africa batter Mignon du Preez announced her retirement from international cricket on Friday, 9 December. Du Preez, 33, had already announced to move away from Test cricket and ODIs after the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup earlier this year.

On Friday, she announced that she was stepping away from T20Is too, bringing curtains down on an international career that lasted more than 15 years.

However, Du Preez will continue to be available for T20 franchise leagues.

Du Preez played 269 international matches for South Africa with the last of them coming in the Commonwealth Games. She represented South Africa in 154 ODIs, 114 T20Is and 1 Test – in which she captained and scored a hundred to her name.

She scored 102 runs off 253 balls in the first innings of the Test match against India in November 2014. She ended her Test career scoring 119 runs at an average of 59.50 with one hundred.

In T20Is, Du Preez scored 1805 runs averaging 20.98 at a strike rate of 101.23 with seven fifties. In ODIs, she scored 3760 runs averaging 30.98 at a strike rate of 67.67 with two hundred and eighteen fifties.

“Fifteen years of international cricket, wow, what a blessing it has been,” she wrote on her social media channel.

“It’s never an easy decision to step away from something you love as much as I love cricket, but I know in my heart that the time is right for me to announce my retirement from all forms of international cricket.

“However, I will still continue to play the shorter format of the game in the global leagues until such a time that I am blessed to become a mom and start a family of my own,” she added.
