At least 20 people lost consciousness on Thursday at the Secunderabad Gymkhana Grounds, and several others suffered injuries.
As almost 30,000 people gathered to buy tickets for the India-Australia cricket match scheduled for September 25, police were forced to use lathi charges.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association organised the selling of tickets for the game at the city’s Uppal stadium at the Gymkhana Grounds. People could be spotted waiting in long, winding lines for the tickets as early as early in the morning.
The police were having trouble controlling the masses as thousands of people gathered. The police used a lathi charge in response to a rapid influx of people coming through the main gate, injuring several persons in the process. Due to lack of oxygen, several people—including women—caught in the mob passed out. In the brawl, several police officers also suffered injuries.

Many of the women in the throng were taken to the hospital after they passed out and were unconscious. Reports that a woman had passed away in the event were denied by police officials.
People present claimed that since there were only four counters put up, the ticket sales arrangements were insufficient.
