The star batter Suryakumar Yadav shone brightly in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Saurashtra on Wednesday at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai, slowly but surely establishing a strong case for a Test call-up.

Suryakumar helped Mumbai bounce back from early setbacks on Day 2 of the match with a counterattacking 95.

Yadav was caught off the bowling of off-spinner Yuvrajsinh Dodiya in Mumbai, preventing him from scoring a well-deserving hundred.

Mumbai were in trouble at 5 for 2 when Surya walked into the batting position after losing the young guns Prithvi Shaw (4) and Yashashvi Jaiswal. Surya then hit 14 boundaries and a six (2).

In just 107 balls, Suryakumar reached 95 while putting together a 61-run partnership with captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 24. and a 92-run partnership with 75-run bowler Sarfaraz Khan.

Suryakumar hit an 80-ball 90 for Mumbai against Hyderabad earlier in December, making it his second consecutive score in the 90s for Mumbai in the current Ranji Trophy season.

He played in Mumbai’s second game of the season, which was also his first first-class game since February 2020, after missing the team’s season-opening contest.
