Won’t reconsider retirement but ‘you never know,’ says Serena

Although Serena Williams vowed on Friday that she won’t change her mind about evolving away from tennis, she added, “You never know.”

When Williams was eliminated from the US Open by Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, it was a loss that most likely signalled the end of her professional tennis career.

“Will you reconsider?” a tearful Williams was asked on court.

“I don’t think so, but you never know.”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion and six-time New York champion was defeated in a third-round match 7-5, 6-7 (4/7), 6-1.
