Linthoi Chanambam of India won a historic gold medal at the World Cadet Judo Championship in Sarajevo, becoming the country’s first medalist in any age group.
The 15-year-old from Manipur defeated Brazil’s Bianca Reis to take first place in the women’s 57kg competition at the Arena Hotel Hills.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) recognised the young athlete’s outstanding performance on the international stage.

On the third day of the Asian Cadet & Junior Judo Championship 2022 in Bangkok in July, she won gold and opened India’s medal account.
Linthoi won gold in the 63kg category of the cadet event.
