Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet Win Gold at Asian Games 2026

India won its second gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won the 10m air pistol mixed team event in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Friday.

The Indian duo scored 484.6 points in the final. They beat South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo. The South Korean pair won silver with 478.0 points. Meanwhile, Iran won bronze with 415.8 points.

Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet Make Strong Start

Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet topped the qualification round. They scored 587 points and 29 inner 10s.

First, the pair scored 196 points. This came in the first series. Then, they scored 195 points in the second series. Their total reached 391 points.

Finally, they scored 196 points in the third series. Their total reached 587 points. This score equalled the Asian record. It also set a new Asian Games qualification record.

Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet Maintain Their Lead

The Indian pair started the final strongly. They stayed at the top from the start.

First, they scored 103.0 in Stage 1. Their total then reached 202.4. After that, it moved to 303.5.

Next, the pair entered Stage 2. They reached 364.7. Their total later moved to 424.9.

Meanwhile, Indonesia were the first team eliminated. They finished with 349.4 points.

After that, India and South Korea continued their fight for gold. Finally, the Indian pair finished with 484.6 points.

Asian Record for Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet

The 484.6-point score set a new Asian record. The record came in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Previously, the Asian record was 481.3. Uzbekistan set that mark at the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi in February 2026.

The Indian pair beat that mark by 3.3 points. In addition, they finished 6.6 points ahead of South Korea.

A Late Change in the Indian Pairing

The Indian pairing was different at first.

Initially, Suruchi Singh was paired with Kedarling Balakrishna Uchaganve. However, Kamaljeet produced India’s best result in the men’s individual qualification.

He scored 580 points. He finished ninth in the qualification round. Therefore, the National Rifle Association of India changed the mixed-team pairing.

The association brought Kamaljeet in as Suruchi’s partner. Meanwhile, Kedarling finished 35th with 568 points.

As a result, Suruchi and Kamaljeet competed together in the mixed team event. The new combination went on to win gold.

Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet Bounce Back

The mixed team gold came after their individual events.

Kamaljeet finished ninth in the men’s 10m air pistol qualification. However, he missed the individual final by one point.

Meanwhile, Suruchi finished 26th in the women’s 10m air pistol qualification. As a result, she did not reach the individual final.

Kamaljeet also missed the individual final. However, the mixed team event gave both shooters another chance.

They used that chance to win India’s first shooting gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games.

India’s Second Gold Medal

The victory gave India its second gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. It followed the women’s cricket team’s gold medal earlier in the competition.
