Indian Women Win Back-to-Back Asian Games Gold

Indian Women won the Asian Games 2026 gold medal after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan.

The Indian Women posted a huge 216/3 in 20 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Sri Lanka struggled during the chase and were bowled out for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs.

The victory means India have successfully defended their Asian Games women’s cricket title. They had also won gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

The Indian Women produced a strong performance with both bat and ball to retain their Asian Games title.

India set the tone early by putting up 216 runs in the first innings. Their batters kept the scoring rate high and finished with a record total for women’s cricket at the Asian Games.

The bowlers then completed the job. Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and never managed to build enough momentum in the chase.

Indian Women’s Cricket Team Dominates With the Bat

Smriti Mandhana gave India a flying start in the final.

The opener scored 79 runs from 45 balls, including five fours and seven sixes. She also shared a 99-run opening partnership with Shafali Verma.

Shafali added to the strong start with an attacking 48 from 29 balls. Her innings included three fours and three sixes.

Together, Mandhana and Shafali kept India in control during the first 10 overs.

Indian Women Set a Record Total in the Asian Games Final

After the openers were dismissed, Richa Ghosh took charge of the innings.

The wicketkeeper-batter smashed an unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls. Her quick innings included six fours and three sixes.

Harmanpreet Kaur also contributed with 19 runs from 17 balls. India continued to attack during the final overs and finished on 216/3.

The total set Sri Lanka a target of 217. It was the highest total in women’s cricket at the Asian Games.

Sri Lanka Bowled Out for 69

Sri Lanka needed 217 runs to win the gold medal but struggled from the beginning of the chase.

India’s bowlers kept the pressure on and took wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 69 runs in 15.4 overs.

Chamari Athapaththu top-scored for Sri Lanka with 29 runs from 21 balls. Kaushini Nuthyangana added 14, but Sri Lanka could not build a strong partnership.

India completed a massive 147-run victory to secure the gold medal.

Deepti Sharma Leads the Indian Women’s Bowling Attack

Deepti Sharma was one of India’s key performers with the ball.

She finished with impressive figures of 3/6. Shafali Verma also contributed by taking two wickets.

India’s spinners kept Sri Lanka under constant pressure throughout the innings. The bowling attack completed the job before the end of the 16th over.

Smriti Mandhana Reaches 11,000 International Runs

The final also produced a major milestone for Smriti Mandhana.

During her 79-run innings, Mandhana became the first woman cricketer to reach 11,000 international runs.

The milestone added another memorable moment to an already historic final. Mandhana’s contribution also played a major role in India’s huge first-innings total.
