The Football Association (FA) has charged Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo with improper conduct for throwing a young supporter’s phone on the ground during a loss at Everton last season.
After the incident, which happened in April after United’s 1-0 loss at Goodison Park, Ronaldo, 37, sent a social media apology to the 14-year-old supporter.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022,” the FA said in a statement.
“It is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent.”
United stated that they will back Ronaldo’s denial of the accusation. In August, the police issued Ronaldo a warning for the incident.
As he moved down the tunnel, Ronaldo was captured on camera slapping the boy’s phone out of his grasp.
The boy’s mother said that he suffered from a bruised hand and a broken phone screen.
