The Netherlands stunned South Africa with a 13-run victory in Adelaide on Sunday, knocking them out of the T20 World Cup.
The result guaranteed India a semi-final berth from Group 2, with Pakistan and Bangladesh competing for the other last-four spot in the day’s second match.
Table-toppers India are on six points and will face Zimbabwe in the final match of Sunday’s triple header in Melbourne, the outcome of which will determine the final Super 12 standings and who will face whom in the semis.
South Africa finished on 145-8, chasing 159 for victory after Colin Ackermann’s unbeaten 41, with Dutch fast bowler Brandon Glover returning impressive figures of 3-9 in two overs.
South Africa got off to a shaky start, with openers Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma out for 39 in six overs.
De Kock hit a four and a six before being caught behind by Fred Klaassen for 13, and Bavuma was bowled by Paul van Meekeren for 20.
But it was Glover’s dismissal of Rilee Rossouw, the Dutch batsman who hit the tournament’s first century before departing after a 19-ball 25.
The Proteas never looked convincing as Klaassen dismissed Aiden Markram for 17, and a Dutch surprise began to take shape when Glover struck twice in one over.
He sent back the dangerous David Miller and then got Wayne Parnell caught behind as the wheels came off South Africa’s World Cup hopes.
