Greg Barclay is re-elected for a second term and will now have another term of two years as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. Notably, A chairman can have three terms in total.

Unlike in 2020, New Zealand’s Barclay is set to have smooth sailing this time around as Dr Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the chair of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), who had filed a nomination against him, is expected to withdraw. The election is scheduled for Saturday (November 12) in Melbourne.

As of Friday (November 11), it was still a two-way contest between the New Zealander and the Zimbabwean but sources in Melbourne say Mukuhlani may withdraw on the day of the election. Some kind of consensus is believed to have been reached among the ICC directors.

A candidate is required to have the backing of two current directors to file a nomination and any candidate wanting to head the world body will be required to have the backing of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The general perception in the ICC is that the Indian board has thrown its weight behind the incumbent.

Earlier, the BCCI wanted to field a candidate but has now decided against having one. Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, will be attending the ICC meetings and elections.
