In the ongoing Asian Games 2023, India competed against Nepal in the first Men’s T20I quarterfinal, emerging victorious by a margin of 23 runs.
Yashasvi delivered an exceptional century, while Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi secured three wickets each. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the youthful Indian team, facing Nepal at the Ping Feng campus cricket field in Hangzhou, China. This marks the inaugural participation of the Men’s cricket team in a continental event.
India won the toss earlier and chose to bat first, getting off to a strong start with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal forging a 100-run opening partnership. Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed remarkable prowess, reaching a century in just 49 balls. Following the dismissals of both openers, India encountered a middle-order collapse, but Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh combined efforts to set a 203-run target within 20 overs.
India’s bowlers performed admirably, limiting Nepal to 179 runs and taking nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi emerged as key contributors, each securing three wickets. India comfortably advanced to the Asian Games semi-finals and is set to face the winner of Semi-final 3 on October 6.
