Leading Australian spinner Adam Zampa is suffering with Covid but is still available for selection for Australia’s T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka later on Tuesday in Perth, according to the hosts.
According to the rules, the 30-year-old leg-spinner must travel separately from the rest of the team and be positioned apart from his teammates, but he is permitted to play.
“Zampa’s symptoms are improving and are now reported as minor in severity,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
“A decision will be made (on his selection) closer to the toss. No other Australian squad members or staff have reported symptoms,” CA added.
Despite having Covid, Ireland’s George Dockrell played against Asian champions Sri Lanka on Sunday in Hobart.
Defending champions Australia will aim to rebound against Sri Lanka after losing their opening match against New Zealand in a difficult Group 1 that also includes England.
