India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup on Thursday due to a back stress fracture, dealing a huge blow to the team’s chances at the ICC flagship event, which begins next month in Australia.
According to a BCCI official, Bumrah will be sidelined for six months due to a back injury.
“Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
A stress fracture is a tiny crack in the bone caused by overuse, which is common in athletes. Stress fracture develops when a stress reaction (bone bruise) goes unnoticed for an extended period of time.
Stress fractures account for nearly half of all sports injuries.
Back stress fractures do not necessitate surgery, but they do take a long time to heal. Rest is the best way to treat stress fractures.
After Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from knee surgery, the 28-year-old fast bowler is the second senior star player to be ruled out.
