India cricketer Prithvi Shaw has been involved in a shocking incident when a car in which he was travelling with friends was struck with baseball bats by some fans who insisted on a second selfie with them in Mumbai late on Wednesday, police said.
After the friends of Shaw lodged a complaint, the Oshiwara police registered a case against at least eight accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to unlawful assembly, intent to harm with weapons, etc, an official said.
“Oshiwara Police has registered a case against 8 persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people,” Mumbai Police was quoted as saying by ANI.
In the videos which went viral on social media, Shaw can be seen in the presence of police on the street at night. The person filming the video can be heard accusing Shaw and his friends of attacking them in a club.

Shaw and his friends, including Ashish Yadav, stepped out after having dinner at a suburban five-star hotel near the Mumbai Airport on Wednesday night.
After they came out of the hotel, they were approached by some fans who asked for selfies with Shaw and he agreed to it. However, a couple of them insisted on a second selfie with him which he refused, saying he wanted privacy with his friends.
After his refusal, a group of fans allegedly attacked and shattered his friend’s car’s windshield with a baseball bat and tried to chase Shaw with the weapon.
The matter calmed down when the cars of Shaw and his friend and the fans who followed them were stopped near a police check-post.
