Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India won the French Open Super 750 title with a straight-game victory over Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in the men’s doubles final here on Sunday.
The world number 8 pair, who finished runners-up in the 2019 event, used a powerful onslaught to defeat the 25th-ranked Lu and Yang 21-13 21-19 in a 48-minute summit showdown.
The Indian duo so extended their dream season, which saw them win the Indian Open super 500 title, Commonwealth Games gold, the Thomas Cup, and an unprecedented bronze medal at the World Championships in August.
It is the pair’s third world tour victory, following the Thailand Open Super 500 in 2019 and the India Open Super 500 earlier this year. In addition, they became the first Indian duo to win a super 750 championship.
Satwik and Chirag won a battle between two attacking teams because they demonstrated superior tactical awareness and a desire to dominate their opponents.
The Indian duo came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. They kept going forward, not allowing their opponent to make a comeback.
Satwik’s excellent serve eventually pushed them establish a six-point lead at the halftime break.
A service fault by Lu Ching Yao ended the run, but they quickly drew level at 14-14 when Chirag went long. Chirag’s errors, including a service blunder, give the Taipei combination the lead.
The Indians, on the other hand, swiftly came back to tie the game at 19-19 after winning a lucky net chord and Yang throwing one wide from the net.
Satwik’s thunderous smash took them to one match point, which he secured with another attacking return.
