Following a cardiac arrest during a Monday night NFL game, the Buffalo Bills reported on Tuesday that safety Damar Hamlin is still in critical condition. The player’s family thanked fans for their support during this “challenging time.”
The 24-year-old Hamlin spent the night in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is still today, according to a statement from the Super Bowl-contending Bills.
“We are grateful and thankful for the outpouring of support we have received so far,” the Bills said.
Sports stars came together to show their support for Hamlin, and all 32 National Football League teams changed their Twitter profile pictures to include his jersey number 3 and the words “Pray for Damar” in white.
The Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League arrived at their game on Tuesday against the Washington Capitals wearing “Love For 3” t-shirts rather than the customary shirt and tie.
Later on Tuesday, the American Falls and Canadian Horseshoe Falls of the famous Niagara Falls will be illuminated as a sign of support for Hamlin, the Bills, and the nearby city of Buffalo.
Hamlin’s family promised to share any new information about his condition as soon as it became available.
“On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time,” Hamlin’s family wrote in a statement. “We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country.”
