U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the current week’s Australian Open warm-up tournament in Melbourne having recently emerged from isolating after testing positive for COVID-19
Emma Radacanu, who turned into the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam when she prevailed at Flushing Meadows in September, had pulled out of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship display event in Abu Dhabi last month after getting infected to the virus.
The 19-year-old was planned to feature one of the two women’s WTA 250 warm-up tournaments occurring at Melbourne Park named the ‘Melbourne Summer Set’ from January 4-9.
“The timing to compete in the first Melbourne event this week is too soon for me, having just returned from isolation,” Emma Raducanu was quoted as saying by the organizers.
The world number 19 is planned to contend in the Sydney Classic in the not so distant future prior to making her debut in the January 17-30 Australian Open.
