U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the current week’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship display event in Abu Dhabi, the 19-year-old Briton said on Monday.
Emma Raducanu, who turned into the first qualifier to win a major when she won at Flushing Meadows in September, was because of face Olympics singles gold medallist Belinda Bencic at the Dec. 16-18 event.
“I was very much looking forward to playing in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately after testing positive for COVID-19, I will have to postpone until the next opportunity. “I’m isolating as per rules and hopefully will be able to get back soon,” said Emma Radacanu.
Coordinators said that they are seeing “alternative top female competitors” to supplant Emma Raducanu at the event.
Rafael Nadal and last year’s U.S. Open champ Dominic Thiem are set to get back from their physical issue setbacks in Abu Dhabi.
England’s Andy Murray, Russian Andrey Rublev, Norway’s Casper Ruud and Canadian Denis Shapovalov will likewise take part in the occasion before the 2022 season kick starts in Australia.
