Coordinators have sold 1.8 million tickets during the current year’s World Cup in Qatar, world soccer governing body FIFA expressed Wednesday ahead of the following round of ticket sales that opens on July 5.
There is a special classification of tickets accessible just to residents of host country Qatar and fans in the Gulf Arab state have purchased the largest number of tickets, FIFA said.
Beside Qatar, the top nations where fans purchased tickets are Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, FIFA said in an official statement.
FIFA hopes to offer a sum of 3 million match tickets during the 28-day competition, which starts off Nov. 21, a representative said.
The following round of sales will stay open until Aug. 16 and tickets will be affirmed on payment, on a first come, first served premise. The latest phase of ticket sales, a random selection move, closed toward the end of April.
