Cricketer Vinod Kambli has been detained by the Bandra Police after being accused of hitting his wife Andrea while intoxicated in front of their two kids. The case has not yet resulted in any arrests.
The FIR was lodged after Andrea reached them late on Friday night, according to the Bandra Police. According to the police, Andrea said in her statement that Kambli became abusive and violent while intoxicated at their home in the JWL Cooperative Housing Society in Bandra Reclamation.
“The complainant has said that Kambli threw the broken handle of a cooking pan at her, causing injuries to her head. He also tried to hit her with a bat but she managed to wrest it out of his hands, after which she immediately took both her children and left the house,” said an officer with the Bandra police station.
Andrea received treatment at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra after that, and she then proceeded to the police station to provide a statement and turn in a copy of the medical record.
“We have booked Kambli for voluntarily causing injuries with a dangerous weapon and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace under the Indian Penal Code,” said the officer.
