Authorities in India’s western Goa state introduced a statue of Portuguese and Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo to inspire youth and take football to a higher level in the state.
Nearby official, Michael Lobo who introduced the statue in a recreation area in state capital Panaji on Tuesday December 28 said the statue will rouse players to excel in football.
With over 800 goals, 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is broadly viewed as one of the best football players ever.
The Manchester United player is enormously well known in the state as Goa is one of the strongholds of Portuguese support in India.
“This is for the first time that the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo has come up in India. This is nothing but to inspire our youth. If you want to take football to another level then this is what young boys and girls will look forward to, taking selfies and looking at the statue and getting inspired to play,” Goa minister Michael Lobo
The statue has been accounted for to cost around Rs 12 lakh and has been worked over a time of three years. It would have been introduced significantly sooner, yet for the Covid-19 pandemic.
