Manika Batra has advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis Championships in both the mixed and women’s doubles divisions, placing India one win away from a historic medal.
In the women’s doubles round of 16, Manika and Archana Kamath won against Hungary’s Dora Madarasz and Georgina Pota 11-4 11-9 6-11 11-7.
In the semifinals, they will meet Sarah de Nutte and Xia Lian Ni from Luxembourg. All losing semifinalists in the competition will receive bronze medals.
After losing the first two games in the mixed doubles, Manika and G Sathiyan made a brave comeback to reach the quarterfinals against a USA-China combination of Kanak Jha and Wang Manyu.
The Indian duo triumphed 15-17, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, and 11-7. In the quarterfinals, they will face Harimoto Tomokazu and Hayata Hina of Japan.
Sharath Kamal and Archana, on the other hand, lost their round of 16 match to Jia Nan Yuan and Emmanuel Lebesson of France.
