Kidambi Srikanth of India was eliminated from the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals after losing in straight games against second-seeded Malaysian Lee Zii Jia in his third and final group B match at Bali on Friday.
Lee, the defending All England champion, was no match for the former world no. 1 Indian, who lost 19-21 14-21 in 37 minutes to terminate his campaign.
It was Srikanth’s second setback against the world no. 8 Malaysian, who had beaten the Indian in straight games at the Hylo Open.
Srikanth was down 0-3 at the start, but fought back to take a 9-8 lead at one point. An alert Lee, on the other hand, ensured a two-point lead at halftime.
A six-point run gave the Indian a 17-15 lead, but he let it slip away, and Lee took the first game.
Srikanth got off to a fantastic start in the second game, leaping out to a 7-3 lead, but Lee turned the tables again, going to a 13-9 lead and maintaining his lead to eventually close the door on the Indian.
