Burnley, a Championship club, has loaned Dutch striker Wout Weghorst to Premier League club Manchester United until the end of the current campaign, the Premier League team announced on Friday.
“I have played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt,” the 30-year-old Weghorst said.
“I have seen United’s progress under (manager) Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims. Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club.”
Weghorst spent the first half of the season on loan at the Turkish team Besiktas, where he made 18 appearances in all competitions and scored nine goals.
To end the striker’s loan agreement, Besiktas said it will receive 2.83 million euros ($3.06 million).
Weghorst paid $14.68 million to join Burnley in January 2022, but he was unable to stop the team from being demoted from the top division in May.
