India’s rising duo Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra defeated home top choices Nandor Ecseki and Dora Madarasz 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6 to secure the mixed doubles title at World Table Tennis Tour Contender Budapest 2021 on Friday.
Sathiyan and Manika had raged into the last with an 11-6,11-5,11-4 success over Aleksandr Khanin and Daria Trigolos of Belarus. In the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, World No. 39 Sathiyan saw an early leave when he lost to World No. 102 Niagol Stoyanov of Italy 12-10, 11-7, 12-10, 19-17.
