Formula One title champion Max Verstappen won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in a Red Bull one-two on Sunday as Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc retired from the lead with an engine issue.
Mexican Sergio Perez, champ of the past race in Monaco, was second in the city of Baku with Britain’s George Russell finishing the podium for Mercedes.
Verstappen’s win compensated for the distress of last year, with the youthful Dutchman denied the success then by a tire victory five laps from the end. He was the 6th different victor in six races in Baku.
Pole-sitter Charles Leclerc’s retirement was his second in three races and today was a double DNF (did not finish) for Ferrari, with partner Carlos Sainz having proactively stopped with a hydraulic failure.
