Muneeba Ali scored a century to lead Pakistan to a 70-run victory over Ireland in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, their first win of the tournament.
Muneeba became the first Pakistani woman to hit a hundred in a T20 international and scored 102 runs from 67 balls before departing on the final delivery of the innings. Opener Javeria Khan was run out for 10, and captain Bismah Maroof added only four runs before being caught by Arlene Kelly.
Nida Dar played the patient role next to Muneeba and scored 15 runs from 21 balls before being dismissed, while Ayesha Naseem scored four runs from three balls before departing. With eight balls remaining in the innings, Pakistan set Ireland 166 to win.
In response, Ireland lost steady wickets due to lapses in concentration, starting with Amy Hunter in the second over. Orla Prendergast scored 31 runs, including back-to-back boundaries, but was caught by Sadia Iqbal for Nashra Sundhu’s second wicket.
Eimear Richardson was searching for a partner but could only watch as Laura Delany was stumped for three. Richardson started to find the boundary consistently, taking 16 runs off Aliya Riaz’s first over, but was next to depart when attempting a scoop.
Nashra picked up four wickets for 18 runs from her four overs, including Javeria’s catch of Waldron, to give Pakistan the victory with 21 balls remaining.
