Nick Kyrgios, who finished second at Wimbledon, has been given a wildcard to play in Cincinnati, Ohio’s U.S. Open tune-up tournament next month, the Western and Southern Open’s organisers said on Monday.
The 27-year-old Australian, who lost to Novak Djokovic in his first Grand Slam singles final two weeks ago, will be playing in Cincinnati for the sixth time and for the first time since 2019.
World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, former champions Alexander Zverev (2021), who missed Wimbledon due to injury, Grigor Dimitrov (2017), Marin Cilic (2016), and Rafa Nadal are all entered in the Western and Southern Open, which runs from August 13 to 21. (2013).
Although he is listed among the participants in Cincinnati, two-time winner Novak Djokovic is unlikely to compete since he has refused the COVID-19 vaccine.
