Shan Masood, Pakistan’s top-order batter, was sent to hospital on Friday for scans after being hit on the head during a net practice at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It was a bizarre event in which Masood was struck by a stray shot off the bat of Mohammad Nawaz, who hit a lofted drive while playing against a spinner.
While waiting for his time to bat, the 33-year-old was wearing pads but not a helmet. Masood collapsed to the ground, his face expressionless. The team doctor quickly attended him.
“He passed the tests taken by our physio. He has gone to the hospital for scans and we pray that he stays fully fit,” vice-captain Shadab Khan told reporters.
Masood, who made his T20I debut against England in September this year, has appeared in all seven T20Is and scored two half-centuries.
On Sunday, Pakistan will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India.
