Madrid Welcomes Formula 1 Back
Now, the sport returns to the capital with a new venue and challenge for every team. The Madring combines public roads with purpose-built sections near IFEMA Madrid and Valdebebas. The official F1 circuit guide lists 22 turns and a 5.414-kilometre lap.
The layout mixes fast sections with slow corners. As a result, drivers must balance top speed with strong braking. The walls also leave little room for mistakes, especially during qualifying.
Spanish Grand Prix 2026 Schedule
First, the weekend starts with FP1 at 5:00 p.m. IST on Friday. Then, FP2 follows at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, FP3 begins at 16:00 p.m. Qualifying starts at 19:30 p.m. Finally, the race begins at 18:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 13.
The New Madring Could Change the Order
Because this is a new circuit, Friday practice will matter more than usual.
The track includes long straights, tight corners and La Monumental. In addition, that banked corner rises to a 24 per cent gradient and could become the weekend’s signature feature.
At the same time, the new surface will test tyre grip. Drivers and engineers must learn fast as the track gains rubber.
Antonelli Leads the Championship Fight
After winning at Monza, Kimi Antonelli arrives in Madrid as the championship leader.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton sits 10 points behind Russell. Ferrari needs a stronger weekend after Hamilton and Charles Leclerc struggled at home.
Alonso and Sainz Add Spanish Interest
For Spanish fans, Fernando Alonso will race on home soil for Aston Martin. Carlos Sainz will also enjoy his first true Madrid home race with Williams.
Overall, the first Madrid race could reward the teams that adapt fastest and produce surprises.
