Vinod Kumar discus thrower and Tek Chand javelin thrower are among the five Indian competitors who will attend the Tokyo Paralympics opening function. Powerlifters Jai Deep and Sakina Khatun are the other para-competitors who will go to the Paralympics opening function.
A sum of 54 para-competitors from across nine games disciplines will include in the Paralympic Games. This is India’s greatest ever contingent to Paralympic Games.
The Paralympic Games is scheduled to be held from August 24 to September 5. Thangavelu Mariyappan, Rio 2016 Gold Medal champ, will be the flag bearer of India in the opening ceremony.
Gursharan Singh, India’s Chef de Mission, Deputy Chef de Mission Arhan Bagati, and mentor of para-games group Satyanarayana are among the six Indian authorities who will attend the opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, the Indian contingent will enter the arena from entryway number five. In the interim, Vinod Kumar has been renamed in the T/F52 classification ahead of the Games.
Also, Tek Chand has been characterized in the T/F55 class, however at the past characterization he had been ordered in the T/F54 classification.
Satyanarayana, the director of Indian Para Athletics, was glad that Vinod Kumar’s characterization was according to expectation.
“Vinod Kumar’s re-classification in his own category is a great news. India’s chances of winning a medal in this category are bright and any change here would have been a big blow to Vinod Kumar and the Indian contingent,” said Satyanarayana in a statement.
“Tek Chand on other hand has been classified in one category above and hence his competition will be that much tougher, but we are sure that he will give his best,” he added.
