India skipper Virat Kohli didn’t keep down when it came to denouncing the social media maltreatment of cricketers and sportsperson, saying ridiculing individuals via social media has turned into a wellspring of amusement and that it addresses the tragic affairs.
Virat Kohli slammed the trolls, calling them “spineless” and they work at the “lowest level of human potential”. Virat Kohli, addressing the pre-match press conference just before India’s match against New Zealand, hit out at trolls for singling out and mishandling Mohammed Shami via social media after India’s 10-wicket loss to Pakistan.
“There is a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to speak to any person in person. They hide their identity and go after people through social media.” said the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
“Making fun of people and it has become a source of entertainment in today’s world which has become so unfortunate and so sad to see. This is literally the lowest level of human potential one can operate at. That’s how I look at these people,” he added.
“We, as individuals, understand what we do on the field. The strength of character we have is precisely why we are doing what we are on the field and none of these people are even in the vicinity to imagine doing something like that. They do not have the courage or the spine to do that. That is how I see things,” he said.
“All this drama that is created on the outside is purely based on people’s frustrations, their lack of self-confidence and lack of compassion. And hence they find it amusing to go after people. We, as a group, understand how we need to stick together. How we need to back individuals and how to focus on strengths,” Kohli continued.
“Never thought of discriminating on the basis of religion. That is a very sacred thing. Our brotherhood and friendship can’t be shaken… and these things can’t infiltrate. I give credit to people who understand us,” he concluded.
Many messages were left on Mohammed Shami’s Instagram account saying he was a ‘traitor’ and ought to be tossed out of the Indian team.
