Team news:

Yuzvendra Chahal could get a game against Bangladesh which traditionally doesn’t like facing leg spin. But at the same time, India could continue with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounder Deepak Hooda who can also chip in with his off-spin bowling as Bangladesh have 4 left-handers at the top.

India (probable XI): KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (capt), Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik (wk), R Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh

Bangladesh may choose an extra bowling option as Shakib looked like he needed a fifth bowler against Zimbabwe. They may go with off-spin all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz who can replace Yasir Ali.

Bangladesh (probable XI): Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Yasir Ali/Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud.

Pitch and conditions:

The Adelaide Oval is traditionally a high-scoring ground in the Big Bash, particularly under lights. The average score batting first is 170 batting in night games. However, there is rain forecast in the evening on Wednesday, which may affect the match.

Stats and trivia:

This is the first T20I between India and Bangladesh since their bilateral series three years ago.

India won their only T20I at the Adelaide Oval, beating Australia by 37 runs here in 2016. Bangladesh has also won their only international match here, their famous 15-run win over England in the 2015 World Cup.

Taskin Ahmed is the standout performer for Bangladesh having taken eight wickets in the Super 12s, including two Player-of-the-Match awards.

Suryakumar Yadav is on 935 runs in 2022 and is set to become the second men’s batter to get 1000-plus runs in a calendar year.

Quotes:

“India is the favourite team, they came here to win the World Cup. We are not favourites, we didn’t come here to win the World Cup. We know it very well that if we win against India, it will be called an upset. We will try to play our best cricket, and try to make an upset.”- said Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.

No, not at all,” Dravid said when asked if Rahul’s form has become a headache for the leadership. “I think he’s a fantastic player, and he’s got a proven track record. He’s done really well. I thought he’s been batting superbly. These things can happen in a T20 game sometimes. It’s not been that easy for top-order batsmen, this tournament has been pretty challenging.

“I thought he was superb in the practice game against Australia with Mitchell Starc and Patrick Cummins. It was a pretty good attack, and I thought he batted superbly that day (for his 57 off 33). So he’s actually playing really well. Just hoping it all clicks together over the next three or four games,” he added.
